‘Grown Up’ Holidays at Combermere Abbey

Estate - 05.10.18

Autumn is here, the leaves are changing, there is a chill in the night air and a cosy grown-up holiday awaits you to welcome in the new season. If you didn’t get the chance to get away this summer, an autumn break without the kids at Combermere Abbey Estate is just what you need before the madness of the festive season begins.

Choosing your stay

Here at Combermere, we have a range of accommodation to suit your different holiday needs. The North Wing is no ordinary bed and breakfast, offering a luxurious retreat, housed in stunning Gothic architecture. With the choice of two beautiful bedrooms, The Salamanca or The Bhurtpore, take in the history of this unique building, featuring exquisite interior design from Nina Campbell.  There’s no need to look far for breakfast as our very own house manager, Stephan, will cook you a delicious breakfast that will set you up for the day ahead.

The Kitchen in the North Wing at Combermere Abbey is set for a delicious breakfast

Our individually designed holiday cottages are also a wonderful option, especially as the family dog is allowed to stay in them too. We have no doubt that your dog will fall in love as much as you will with the rich surroundings of Combermere Abbey and they too will love getting cosy in one of our cottages. Depending how many friends are joining you for the grown-up retreat, we have cottages that will cater up to 10 guests! For the girls retreat, the Malbanc cottage (sleeps 8) or the Crossley (sleeps 10) will be ideal for the perfect pamper nights, huddled around the fire. For the couple’s staycation, the Stapleton or Callander is the perfect size.

Dining out

When it comes to dinner, there’s plenty of places to choose from – we’re particularly fond of Docket No.33, owned by Michelin Star chef Stuart Collins in nearby Whitchurch right now which offers modern, British cuisine with local and international influence. Be sure to save room for their Peanut Brittle dessert – simply delicious! Their tasting menu is an absolute must, featuring rainbow trout, rose veal fillet, followed by a selection of local cheeses. For the full tasting experience, you can also have the paired drinks for each dish.

The multi-award winning Residence Restaurant and Bar in Nantwich is also worth a visit, offering an extensive menu with delicious deli-boards, prime steaks and seafood, accompanied by wines from around the world. If you’re looking to indulge in a few after-dinner cocktails too, there’s a wide selection to choose from, whether you’re a fan of tea-based cocktails, champagne or the classic cosmopolitan. Guests at Combermere Abbey also receive a complimentary glass of prosecco too!

If you’re looking for typical country pub meal, take a look at our blog for our top pub picks. Just a stone’s throw away is the wonderful Dusty Miller, set in an idyllic and romantic setting, in the quiet village of Wrenbury. Enjoy a classic Great British dish whilst overlooking the canal, watching the boats go by – ultimate relaxation.

Switch off at Combermere Abbey

If you’re looking to totally unwind, whether you’re staying in one of our cottages or at the North Wing, turn your accommodation into your very own spa and book a treatment that will come straight to your door! Glo Pamper have a huge range of treatments and special packages, whether you’re on a couples retreat or on a girly getaway, there’s something for everyone. Just imagine bringing your day of exploring to a close with an exquisite hot stone massage. If you’re planning a midweek break with the girls, then there’s also plenty of spa packages to choose from.

Exploring your surroundings

When it’s just grown-ups, the sky’s the limit for an adventure. Enjoy a 360 degree view of the Cheshire countryside by taking a hot air balloon ride. This romantic experience can be booked through Virgin balloon flights and you can take off from Whitchurch Rugby Club – just a short drive away.

If you prefer to explore on foot, there are an abundance of relaxing walks you can take right inside the grounds of Combermere. Reconnect with nature and discover the magic of the woods, hear the birds singing and see the autumn sun flooding through the trees. Imagine a romantic evening sitting by the Mere, watching the sun set – a perfectly serene evening for two.
