At Combermere, we pride ourselves on being truly dog-friendly, offering a haven where both you and your four-legged companion can relax and unwind amidst the stunning Cheshire countryside. Plus, something totally unique too. How many doggies can say they’ve stayed at a place that dates back to the 12th century, in converted cottages which were once historic stables and coach houses?!
Our ten self-catering cottages are not just pet-friendly; they’re designed with your pup’s enjoyment in mind. All cottages welcome one large or two small dogs, (over 6 months old and house trained) ensuring that your furry family member feels right at home. There are nine courtyard cottages and one stand along Stone Lodge which has its own enclosed garden. Upon arrival, your pooch will be treated to their very own Pooch Pack, complete with a sofa cover, bowl, and tasty treats. Here at Combermere Abbey, we believe that every dog deserves to be pampered during their holiday just as much as their human companions.
With acres of gardens, parkland, and woodland to explore, your pup will be in doggy heaven! From leisurely strolls to adventurous strides, there’s something for every canine explorer to enjoy. We have two designated off-lead areas, the Pleasure Garden and Garden Wood, right next door to your courtyard cottage and a walk away from Stone Lodge which provide ample space for your pup to stretch their legs and sniff out new adventures. And don’t worry about those muddy paws, our cottages are equipped with everything you need to keep your furry friend clean and comfortable after a day of outdoor play!
Our annual Bluebell walks are returning from 21st April, and your pups are more than welcome to partake. They make a great backdrop for some amazing Insta-worthy pics of the doggies!
Looking to venture beyond the abbey’s grounds? Cheshire and Shropshire are home to some paw-some destinations that both you and your pooch will love. Take a scenic stroll along the Sandstone Trail, where you’ll be treated to panoramic views of the countryside and historic landmarks along the way. Or head to Delamere Forest for a day of woodland exploration, with trails suitable for dogs of all sizes and energy levels.
If you prefer a more relaxed day out, why not visit one of the dog-friendly pubs in the area? The Combermere Arms, The Swan at Marbury, The Shroppie Fly, and the Pheasant Inn all welcome four-legged guests, and some even offer treats and belly rubs! We recommend getting out and enjoy some local hospitality, and of course, let your pup socialise with other furry friends. And don’t forget our very own Old Piggery Café at the estate’s Parkview Business Centre.

Why not extend your exploration beyond Combermere Abbey by visiting nearby attractions that welcome pets? Some of our guest favourites to visit with their pets include Hawkstone Park Follies. The captivating landscape filled with cliffs, crags, caves, and extraordinary features is a fantastic place to visit with your pet. This fantasy-themed park allows dogs on leads, making it an ideal destination for a day of exploration with your canine companion. You can navigate through the maze of trails, discover hidden caves, and enjoy the breath-taking scenery with your furry friend.
Or if you’re looking for something a little closer, just a stone’s throw away we recommend the magnificent Sandstone Trail. This scenic trail is a haven for nature enthusiasts and avid hikers alike. The Sandstone Trail offers not only a physical challenge but also a well-rewarded one. As you traverse the well-marked paths, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes, including the iconic Peckforton Castle. This trek along the Sandstone Trail promises a perfect blend of adventure and tranquillity, making it an ideal outing for both two-legged and four-legged companions.
