Wedding Venue Questions

How do we arrange to visit?

To arrange a visit, you can visit our book a visit page on our website and select a suitable date and time using our visit calendar. Alternatively, if you want to speak to our team directly, call 01948 838 391.

How much is it to secure a date?

Your initial payment is £750 of your venue hire fee plus your initial catering payment of £750 + VAT.

How do we book our wedding at Combermere Abbey?

Once you have been to visit, you will receive via email log on details to our booking portal, which can be found here. Remember to book your registrar or Church, details of which are found in these questions.

What are your prices?

What is your closing time?

Last orders will be called and music will wind down at 11:30 pm. The bar will close at 11.30 pm. The venue closes at midnight, and we ask that all guests who aren’t staying the night have pre-booked taxis to collect them by midnight.

Which local registry office do I book my ceremony with?

You will need to contact the local registrar to inform them of your chosen venue, your wedding date and preferred time.

Where is the nearest church?

You can use Keeper’s Cottage before your wedding if you prefer a church wedding. Alternatively, you may choose to arrive at Combermere Abbey after your wedding ceremony.

What is your capacity for ceremonies, dining and evening receptions?

Ceremony – We can host 150 guests for both indoor and outdoor ceremonies
Dining – We can host 150 guests for a sit-down meal
Dancing – Our capacity for your evening reception is 190 guests
Accommodation – We have nine self-catering cottages onsite sleeping up to 49 guests. We also have The North Wing, our honeymoon suite that sleeps two.

Do you have somewhere to get ready on the morning of the wedding?

Yes, we have Keeper’s Cottage, which includes hair and makeup stations and a comfortable seating area. This space is available from 9 am the morning of your wedding.

Can our dog come to our wedding?

We love (well-behaved) dogs and appreciate that they are a huge part of your family. They are welcome to join you for the ceremony and photographs and would need to be take offsite after this. If you wish to bring your dog(s) along, please speak to your Events Manager.

Is the venue accessible?

Combermere Abbey is wheelchair accessible. We also have accessible accommodation onsite.

Can we use our caterers?

A fantastic team of in-house chefs provide all of our catering. It is not possible to use your own caterers.

Do we need wedding insurance?

We strongly recommend that you take out wedding insurance. Weddings are a big investment, and fingers crossed that you’ll never need to call on your insurance, but having it in place will cover you for a range of eventualities.

Can you host private events other than weddings?

Yes! We can and do host many different types of events and celebrations, such as gala dinners, product launches, Christmas parties and many more. The best way to find out more about hosting an event here is by visiting our website’s events page or contacting the team directly at 01948 838 391.

How do we arrange to visit to discuss our event?

Call us on 01948 838391, and we will arrange for you to come and see Combermere Abbey in person.

How much does hiring Combermere Abbey for a private event cost?

Every event we host here is unique, so we do not have a standard pricing package. Instead, we speak with you directly to create a bespoke package that suits you and your event.

What is your capacity?

This will vary depending on your event type, but our maximum capacity is 190 guests.

Can we use our own caterers?

We do not allow outside caterers at Combermere Abbey. However, we are more than happy to work with you to create a bespoke menu that perfectly fits your vision.

Is the venue accessible?

Yes, we are wheelchair accessible, and we have accessible accommodation for overnight guests.

Can we use our own suppliers?

Yes, we are happy for you to use your own suppliers for everything apart from catering and drinks.

Who provides the catering?

All catering is provided by Combermere Abbey’s onsite team of chefs.

Do you have prices and an example menu?

Yes, please see here for example menus and prices for wedding food event food menu and pricing will be bespoke to your package.

Are we able to create our own menu?

Our chefs love working with you to create your own menu if you would like something a little different from our packages.

Can we bring our own food & drink to the venue?

It is not possible to bring any food and drink into the venue other than a wedding or celebration cake, confectionery (which must be in the original sealed containers in which they were purchased), and edible favours with allergens clearly labelled. Please speak with our team if you need any further clarification.

Do you cater for allergies and how do we inform the team?

Please speak to our Events Team about any allergies or dietary requirements you or your guests may have during your meetings in the lead-up to the event.

Do you offer vegan & vegetarian options?

Yes, we have a delicious range of vegan and vegetarian options.

Are we able to create bespoke cocktails?

You can work with our bar team to create bespoke cocktails for your wedding or event.

Can we pre-order food and drink for the morning of the wedding or event?

Yes! We have a range of delicious grazing boards available to enjoy while you get ready in The Dressing Room. We can also provide bottles of Champagne or prosecco for your wedding morning celebrations. Please speak to the events team for more information.

Guest & Accommodation FAQs

How do we get to the venue?

Our address is Combermere Abbey Estate, Nantwich, Cheshire, SY13 4AJ. Our private drive is about one mile long, and you should follow the signs to the wedding car park.

Please note: If you are arriving to Combermere Abbey via an Uber taxi please ensure your driver takes you to the front gate of the Estate, and then follow the main drive to the wedding venue car park via our postcode SY13 4AJ.

Is there parking, and can cars be left overnight?

Guests staying overnight are welcome to park in the accommodation car park and walk through the garden to the venue. For non-residential guests there are 50 spaces in the main car park. Cars can be left overnight but must be collected by 10 am the following morning.

What time does the venue close?

Is there somewhere to purchase a drink ahead of the wedding or event when we arrive?

Our bar is usually open ahead of a wedding ceremony. Please note that the bar closes 30 minutes before the start of the ceremony. Please speak to the wedding couple about the exact timings of the day.

If you are attending another type of event, please speak to the event organiser to find out when the bar will open.

Can I purchase a gift for the couple for their wedding day?

Absolutely! If you want to purchase one of our products as a gift for the happy couple, we can arrange this for you. Please contact us at 01948 838920.

Wedding and events accommodation FAQs

How many people can stay overnight?

There are nine self-catering cottages onsite sleeping up to 49 in total plus The North Wing (used as the honeymoon suite for weddings).

How do we book the accommodation?

You can contact our accommodation sales team directly on [email protected] or by calling 01948 871662.

Can we stay the night before a wedding or event?

You can book Stone Lodge for the night before your wedding. The cottage sleeps four people and provides the setting for relaxing with your bridesmaids or groomsmen. In the morning you can then make your way over to Keeper’s Cottage to start your preparation.

How much is the accommodation?

What time is check-in?

Guests can check in to their bedrooms from 4 pm.

What time is checkout?

We ask that all guests check out by 10 am.

Can we have a late checkout?

Unfortunately, we cannot offer a late checkout. We stipulate this time to enable us to prepare the venue for the next wedding or event.

Is the venue accessible?

Combermere Abbey is wheelchair accessible, and we have accessible accommodation onsite.

Is breakfast provided?

All of the Courtyard Cottages are fully equipped with kitchens, and we will provide a Breakfast Basket within each cottage for guests to enjoy the next morning. Please do advise us of any dietary requirements for your guests staying.

Where do guests park for the Courtyard Cottages?

There is excellent private parking available for all the Courtyard Cottages. Cars are permitted to unload only in the Courtyard.

How do we allocate guests to cottages?

You will be sent a Room Allocation spreadsheet to detail each bedroom within the cottages, which will allow you to allocate your guests across the cottages. We will require the names, email addresses and phone numbers of each guest staying. It is important that this information is correct, if not you will be at risk of losing your Security Deposit. Your guests will receive an Arrival Information Pack prior to their stay. We do not allow any guests to stay that are not on the Room Allocation Sheet.

Will anybody greet my guests?

There will be a Guest Relations Manager onsite to greet your guests and to direct them to their cottage.

Do you have cots available?

We have five travels cots available – we do not provide cot bedding so guests should bring their own. We have five camp beds available also, and recommend these for children under the age of 12 (these are priced at £20 per child).

Do you have stair gates?

Stair gates and highchairs are available for the cottages on request.

Are dogs allowed to stay?

We have a strict NO dog policy within our Cottages when booked for a wedding.
