Rachael and Tom’s Spring Celebration At Combermere Abbey

Real Life Weddings - 27.02.18

Rachael and Tom’s romantic wedding embraced all we love about springtime… daffodils, the Combermere Abbey gardens, fun and a fabulous party!

That Venue Vibe

When planning their wedding day, Rachael and Tom had three key requirements… to celebrate their marriage, have all their favourite people in one place and to throw a great party. They fell in love with the beauty of Combermere Abbey and the Glasshouse overlooking the fruit tree maze.

“It was also equidistant to both our parents and we loved the fact that our dance floor was in the same room as the bar. It meant that everyone would be together for the party.”

The Décor

The happy couple cleverly incorporated their personalities in to the style of the day. Tom is Welsh and an avid golfer while Rachael is a science teacher. Daffodils (representing Tom’s Welsh roots) sat beside cream roses in test tube vases while golf balls held the table numbers and each table centerpiece was completed by a sheep doorstop!

Framed photographs of parents and grandparents on their wedding days were displayed in crates.   “We weren’t strict with a theme. We just picked what we liked, creating an atmosphere that really represented us without being expensive.” - RACHAEL

The Dress

The beautiful bride wore ‘Lovia’ by Sophia Tolli, in a shade of almond with ivory lace overlay. Originally she was unsure about the almond shade but the warm tone undoubtedly suited her.

“I loved the fact that I didn’t feel self-conscious about any part of my body in my dress. It outlined my figure but had a brilliant train and the lace detail was beautiful.” – RACHAEL

Rachael accessorised with a bracelet of Welsh gold, a gift from Tom on the morning of the wedding.

“I also wore a Manchester United garter from my mum. We are big fans!”

With eight bridesmaids, Rachael was concerned about choosing a dress that would suit each of them. In the end, they chose the second dress they tried on – a long, navy design with beading and sequin detail from Monsoon. To accessorise, each bridesmaid wore a necklace that was a gift from Rachael on the day of the wedding.

The Day

A magical ceremony included a small choir of pupils from the school where Rachael teaches.

“It was really special to have them there. I have taught all the girls who sang and they were in their school uniform.”

After enjoying reception drinks and canapés, the wedding breakfast was served in the Pavilion. The menu started with ham hock terrine, moving on to chicken with dauphinoise potatoes and a trio of desserts.

“We sampled the menu beforehand and it was awesome. The starter was incredible!”  - RACHAEL

Time to Celebrate!

Garden games entertained guests in between the wedding breakfast and evening reception, while the bridal party had fun taking photographs on the tennis court. As the sun went down, a band called ‘The Fanatics’ filled the dancefloor and Rachael and Tom danced their first dance to ‘You Make My Dreams Come True’ by Hall & Oates. Adding to the party vibe, the happy couple also hired a photo booth with an abundance of props and introduced ‘Wish Upon A Sparkle’, offering glitter face and beard make up.

“Tom was a little dubious about the idea but it went down a storm with our guests, particularly the men! It really helped get everyone in the party atmosphere.” - RACHAEL We all appreciate tasty food in the evening and the newlyweds were set to delight, choosing fish finger sandwiches, smiley faces, beans and peas! “I am known for my love of children’s food. The caterers were more than accommodating and people really loved it!” - RACHAEL

Cake, Glorious Cake

Tom’s mum used her talents to create an amazing cake that looked like crates of flowers.

“We are very lucky she is so talented – people couldn’t even tell it was a cake at first!”

“As Tom was doing his speech, I remember thinking how handsome he looked and how lucky I was to have him. I could see all my favourite people in one place laughing with us.”
