How To Spend A Dog-Friendly Weekend Break In Cheshire / Shropshire
Combermere Abbey is where the charm of the Cheshire and Shropshire countryside meets the joy of shared moments with beloved pets. If you’re longing for an escape with your four-legged friend, Combermere Abbey provides the perfect setting for a dog-friendly weekend break.
Exploring Combermere’s Woodlands
Start your weekend adventure with a leisurely stroll through the enchanting woodlands that surround Combermere Abbey. Our estate boasts acres of ancient trees and flora and fauna – an ideal backdrop for an invigorating walk with your canine companion. Plus, the doggies just love all the new smells! Unwind amidst serene landscapes, taking in the beauty of ancient landscape and lake views.
Your pet will be greeted with a specially prepared basket, a dedicated bowl, and a delightful treat, ensuring they feel just as pampered as you do. They love a snooze by our fires too!
Local Walks
If you and your four-legged friend are itching to explore further than our grounds, then you’re in luck! We have an abundance of rolling hills, sprawling fields and beautiful landscapes for you and your pet to explore. Some of our favourite options include The Shropshire Union Canal towpath, providing a peaceful route with scenic views. Alternatively, the circular walk around the nearby village of Audlem offers a charming blend of countryside and village life.
Additionally, the enchanting Delamere Forest awaits just a short distance away from Combermere, providing a diverse and immersive natural experience for both you and your furry companion. With its network of trails weaving through ancient woodlands, Delamere Forest offers yet another enticing option for an adventurous outing with your pet. Even better, there are a number of lovely countryside walks with pubs for you and your doggie.
Dog-Friendly Pubs and Eateries
Worked up an appetite? All our dog-friendly holiday cottages come fully equipped for you to cater for friends, family and pets, but isn’t it nice to treat yourself to a meal out? You are on holiday after all! We are very lucky to have a wonderful variety of pubs and eateries around our grounds that are also dog friendly!
Of course, our first recommendation is The Combermere Arms. Only a short distance from the top of the drive, this village gastro-pub ( famous for their cask beers and freshly home cooked food) will welcome you with a refreshing drink and delightful menu, along with a bowl of water and a treat for your pooch.
Another recommendation to try if you’re looking to explore a bit further is The Shroppie Fly. Located just five miles from us here, this innovative Canalside pub welcomes ALL guests (four legged or otherwise) to dine on their locally produced cuisine, while watching the narrow boats drift by.
For a memorable lunch with outstanding panoramic views, venture to The Pheasant Inn at Burwardsley. Situated amidst the captivating landscape, this gem offers not only a delectable menu but also an unparalleled visual feast. Treat yourself and your furry companion to a delightful meal while soaking in the breath-taking scenery that stretches as far as the eye can see. Plus, The Pheasant Inn is conveniently located right off the Sandstone Trail, making it the perfect pit stop for those eager to explore the scenic wonders of this iconic trail!
Other Nearby Attractions
Why not extend your exploration beyond Combermere Abbey by visiting nearby attractions that welcome pets? Some of our guest favourites to visit with their pets include Hawkstone Park Follies. The captivating landscape filled with cliffs, crags, caves, and extraordinary features is a fantastic place to visit with your pet. This fantasy-themed park allows dogs on leads, making it an ideal destination for a day of exploration with your canine companion. You can navigate through the maze of trails, discover hidden caves, and enjoy the breath-taking scenery with your furry friend.
Or if you’re looking for something a little closer, just a stone’s throw away we recommend the magnificent Sandstone Trail. This scenic trail is a haven for nature enthusiasts and avid hikers alike. The Sandstone Trail offers not only a physical challenge but also a well-rewarded one. As you traverse the well-marked paths, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes, including the iconic Peckforton Castle. This trek along the Sandstone Trail promises a perfect blend of adventure and tranquillity, making it an ideal outing for both two-legged and four-legged companions.
