Combermere Abbey’s Winter Walks and Fireside Chats

Estate - 04.01.19

Walking in a Winter Wonderland… That’s definitely true here at Combermere Abbey! As some lament the weather of the winter seasons, we delight in seeing the Combermere Abbey estate transformed into a magical land of crisp frost and dusted in pillows of snow.

If you’re on the fence about how you feel about the season, maybe we can persuade you with some winter walk inspiration…

The Georgian Glasshouse at Combermere Abbey looks stunning in the winter sunshine

The delicacy of the fruit maze in the historic walled gardens is never more evident than in winter, as the frost highlights the intricacy of the maze and the fine craftmanship of the architecture. The fruit maze is the perfect winter walk for those who don’t want to travel too far, but still want to stretch their legs and get a breath of fresh air – and you’ll be back in your cosy cottage by the fire in no time!

The peace we feel from being near water has a magical quality, and we’re incredibly lucky to have a private natural mere for guests to stroll around. The large lake is the vision of serenity in winter, and presents the perfect walking opportunity for those who want to get back to nature.

An adventure through the woodlands is the ideal winter walk for families. Children can let their imagination run wild, and families with dogs can let their four-legged friends explore the explosion of new smells. There are few sounds more joyful than the crunch of frostbitten leaves underfoot, and the woodlands in winter are simply brimming with them…

And for a more adult walk, you can’t get better than a pub walk! For those who like a slightly longer walk to really work up an appetite, the Combermere Arms is just under a mile and half away. Once there, you can sit back with a glass of something warming and while away the afternoon in a cosy corner in front of a roaring fire.

If you know someone who’s yet to be converted to a winter-worshipper, why not book a last minute short break at Combermere and change their minds…
