Spooky Season Activities Near Combermere Abbey
Inspiration - 01.09.22
It’s nearly time for the chills and thrills of Halloween!
We actually have some very rare selected availability left in our cottages over the October half term when most of the activities in Cheshire and Shropshire are taking place. No tricks here, we promise!
From parading through pumpkin patches to ghost hunting in the city, there’s something for everyone this Halloween. So, for those of you who’re staying with us in October (or indeed for those who might like to), open your diaries as we have some serious inspiration for you.
Magical Woodland At Blakemere Village
This year, the Magical Woodland we’ve come to know and love in Northwich has expanded and now features BRAND NEW spooktacular themes to guarantee you and the family an evening of Halloween family fun!
In the heart of the Cheshire countryside, you can journey on an ethereal experience of dazzling lights, interactive features, and dancing tunnels of Borealis-style lasers. The Halloween event in particular features some family favourite characters, including dinosaurs, sea creatures, and wizards and witches!
Combermere Abbey is just over 20 miles from Blakemere Village, and your cosy log fire will be waiting in the cottage ready to warm up those toes after an evening exploring!

Pumpkin Picking & A Halloween Maze At Bolesworth
Enjoy some frightfully fun Halloween adventures at Bolesworth’s inaugural pumpkin picking patch and Halloween ‘maize’ maze in the heart of Cheshire from 8th October, right through to 30th October.
Doesn’t it sound fun to pick your own pumpkin, then head back to your cottage to carve it? (Just remember to take them home with you and make good use of those seeds too!).
The autumnal fun at Bolesworth also features plenty of other scarily good things to see and do, such as crafts and activity tables, trails, wildflowers to run through, places to take photos and most importantly – lots of opportunities to make unforgettable memories!
What’s more, Gandey’s Circus will also set up camp at the estate from 21st October – 30th October for so there’s even more chance for some frightfully good fun.
Harry Potter Forbidden Forest Experience At Arley Hall
A night-time woodland trail experience filled with magical creatures and wizarding wonders from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beast films sounds like an AMAZING way to spend an evening to us!
This spectacular event put on by our friends at Arley Hall was so popular last year that it nearly sold out, and tickets are being snapped up for 2022 as we speak.
If you’re lucky enough to go, you can explore the sounds, lights, and special effects that bring the magic of the wizarding world to life. You will also be able to enjoy a wide range of delicious food and drinks at the village too! The kids (or the big kids!) can interact with magical characters and cast spells, as well as discovering Centaurs, a lovely Hippogriff, and other magical creatures before making a Patronus appear at the end!
The magic is an hour’s drive from Combermere Abbey, but definitely worth a trip due to how well reviewed it was last year. Plus, for our friends visiting us from far down south or up north, if you’ve a few days with us – this is a day trip absolutely worth making.
Chester Ghost Tours In The City
The city of Chester has been around for over two millenniums, and is thought to be one of the most haunted places in the world. What better a way to give yourself a fright than to go ghost hunting after dark?
A stroll through the city’s cobbled streets on an official Chester Ghost Tour will take you through ancient thoroughfares and the ‘wicked old rows’ to off-the-beaten-track locations with eerie backdrops that are enough to send a chill down anyone’s spine. Expect to be told scary stories about “ghosties and ghoulies, and things that go bump in the night.”
The Alpha Omega Halloween Spooktacular In Nantwich
The region’s largest firework display is held every year in no other than Nantwich!
The evening will include a firework ‘Pyromusical’, a funfair, a traditional Punch & Judy show, and much more. Plus, there are fancy dress competitions running throughout the evening for those of you who really like to get in the ‘spirit’.
Now in its 14th year, the Nantwich Spooktacular will take place on Saturday 29th October at the Show Ground which is just a 20-minute drive from our cottages. Tickets are available on the gate.
