What’s On In Cheshire And Shropshire This Summer?

Inspiration - 25.07.22

Summer is finally upon us, and the weather has really reached an all-time high, hasn’t it?

Though we’re pretty booked up for the summer period now (apart from last-minute availability which we always share on our Facebook page), we’d love to tell you about some of the local businesses nearby to Combermere for you to support them if you can.

If you haven’t already started planning your summer itinerary, then don’t worry as Shropshire and Cheshire have so much on over the next few months, to keep you and the kids entertained right up until October.

7 Things Do To In Cheshire And Shropshire This Summer

Cheshire

1. Moonlight flicks at Snugburys, Nantwich

Snugburys is a lovely local business enjoyed by many of our guests at Combermere, especially when the weather is warm. Their Ice Cream Park Farm is hosting their annual moonlight flicks theatre extravaganza again this year! Every week, an inflatable cinema screen will grace the farmland, showcasing a range of classic movies for all ages. Some of the films include Dirty Dancing, West Side Story, and the recent and very popular Disney film Encanto.

VIP tickets can be acquired, where seats will be provided to guests, otherwise you can bring your own camping chair or picnic blanket to relax on. Food and drink can be pre-ordered before the film and of course, the delicious and locally-iconic Snugburys ice-cream will be available for you to indulge on.

2. Tatton Park’s pop-up festival, Knutsford

Tatton Park’s pop up festival is a 10-week outdoor boutique festival, running up until 6th August. It features 52 unique music and entertainment acts over the summer and guests can enjoy a chilled-out line-up of entertainment ranging from dance parties to dinosaur shows for the kiddies.

All of this is encompassed within a private, fully furnished pitch area at Tatton Park, the event is set beside the breath-taking lakeside which covers 2000 acres of parkland. You can grab yourself some food and cocktails to enjoy the evening. Whether you’re searching for family entertainment, a night out with the girls, or a laid-back Sunday vibe, Tatton Park festival has it all.

Combermere Abbey is only an hour away from Tatton Park, so if you would like to make it a weekend occasion with friends and family, keep a look out for any last minute availability in our cottages.

3. Grosvenor Park’s open air theatre, Chester

One of Chester’s best-loved experiences is returning once more! Over July and August, the open-air theatre in Grosvenor Park is hosting several much-loved classics, including Romeo & Juliet, Stig Of The Dump and Little Women.

You can kick back and immerse yourself in the fabulous story and discover a unique way of theatre.  The Grosvenor Park will also have a tepee bar which will serve ice-cold craft beers, cask ales and frozen margaritas, with hot wood-fired pizzas, fresh ice cream and more… All from local businesses. So do your bit and support them, whilst having a great time too.

4. Sunflower picking at Bolesworth, Tattenhall

Bolesworth’s beautiful sunflower maze is in full bloom, ready for picking. And from 20th August to 4th September, you can do exactly that! If you fancy a stroll along through the sunflower maze, posing for a photo in the wildflowers and grabbing some lovely flowers for the way home, you can do it all here.

This local business is launching this event for the first time this summer, so do go out and support them if you’re nearby (or fancy a day trip). There will be a range of craft tables for children to get involved, alongside food, ice-cream, and refreshments.

And don’t forget, if you’re a lover of flowers and nature, Combermere is home to acres and acres of outstanding beauty, you can enjoy the flora and fauna of the many seasons when you come to stay here.

Shropshire

We’re on the border of Cheshire and Shropshire, which means not only do our guests get to enjoy both counties when they stay here, but it also means we’ll always encourage you to support local shops and businesses across both borders.

1. Hot Air Balloon Carnival, Oswestry

On the 20th August, Oswestry is hosting its annual hot air balloon carnival. The huge town centre event will see 25 hot air balloons launching from Cae Glas Park. There will be several food and drink stalls from local traders, with live music playing throughout the day and into the evening. The event is completely free, so get the family down and enjoy the take-off of the hot air balloons, supporting small businesses in the meantime!

2. The Folk Festival, Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury’s 4-day folk festival runs from Friday 26th to Monday 29th August. The festival will be delivering the finest acts from not just locally, but across the UK and around the world too. There are plenty of events and entertainment planned for children and young people, workshops for everyone and brilliant organised sessions on.

3. Shrewsbury’s flower show, Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury’s flower show is set to be an outstanding event, not to be missed for nature lovers! The show spreads across a massive 29 acres and showcases award winning flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Also look out as the event attracts TV personalities and celebrity chefs as they put on demonstrations to the public! This event runs over Friday 12th and Saturday 13th of August, and will include live music from local performers, food and drink stalls from Shropshire producers, arts and crafts and even show jumping! At the end of both nights, the show puts on wonderful fireworks display for all the guests.

We love seeing our guests go out to support our local counties, there are so many local businesses and organisations worth engaging with. If you’re all tired out after your summer of activities, we have breaks available in the early autumn for you to wind down and rejunivate. Check our booking page for all our latest availability.
