Nibbles and Tipples: Indulgence at the Whitchurch Food Festival

Estate - 11.05.18

The Whitchurch Food and Drink Festival is back, and this year we are delighted to be an official sponsor! The festival will be hosted on the charming high street of this historic town, and is set to take place on the 19th and 20th May, what better way to celebrate the royal wedding weekend than sampling the very best of local British food – the town hall will even be providing a large screen to watch his Royal Highness marry Meghan Markle in style!

Kicking off the fifth anniversary festivities will be celebrity chef and TV personality Rosemary Shrager, who you might recognise from shows such as Culinary Genius. Not only will the revered chef be treating us to two cookery demonstrations, but she will also be the judge of the famous cake competition … so get your aprons on! We’re also looking forward to an appearance from Brian Mellor from local Chester Harthill Cookery School and the owner of Whitchurch’s hottest new restaurant Docket No. 33 – who’s also worked at a Michelin star restaurant!

The Whitchurch Food and Drink Festival is the ultimate day out for families and food lovers, where those who attend will be able to discover an abundance of local and regional produce. You can buy a very British lunch at Powell’s Pies followed by a sweet treat from Flapjackery, and perhaps pick up something from Berry Fresh – who use produce from our famed Fruit Maze to whip up their delicious creations. Not forgetting The Cheshire Cheese Company, where you can experience a true taste of the county!

If your little ones aren’t quite as interested in sampling local cuisines as you are, then don’t worry – there’ll be a variety of children’s activities to choose from as well. You can sit back with a bowl full of freshly cooked street food and a glass of something sparkling (thank heavens for the genius idea that is the mobile Prosecco bar A Drop of What You Fancy!) and soak up the atmosphere of the festival, all whilst the kids are kept entertained with professional face painting.

The festival will feature a whole range of treats to get your taste buds tingling, and with 80 stalls, there really is something for everyone. Don’t worry, we’ve not forgot about your furry friends! Pupcakes will also be featuring at the festival, a bakery designed just for dogs.

The thing with food festivals is that you always end up spending far longer than you originally planned, as your hours are happily spent whiled away with tempting samples before settling down for a full 5 course meal from the vendors (we’re thinking olives for appetisers, splitting a pizza as a starter, exotic jerk chicken for mains, followed by classic churros for dessert and a final cheese course)!

We’re a mere 5 miles away from Whitchurch, so travel couldn’t be easier. Immerse yourself in our acres of rolling parklands and ancient woods to explore to really work up an appetite before heading to Whitchurch – you can even bring your four legged friends along with you, all of our cottages are dog friendly. Then, you can fully enjoy the festival experience safe in the knowledge that instead of facing a long drive back, you have a luxuriously cosy cottage to come home to where you can treat yourselves to a relaxing country break.
